new compact camera

I've been shopping around for cameras, and I was looking at either the Canon Powershot S60, or the Sony DSC-V1. What is the advantage of the SLR vs. Compact. Help appreciated, Thanks!

the V1, T1, or W1? The W1 is a nice little camera - every time we get one in store, it sells out really fast.

the lens on the T1 isn't that great, mainly because it can't move - so the W1 (at $100 less also) is a better buy.

There is two:

main differences:

a) shutter speeds.
b) lenses

c) noise quality. (most dslr's are noiseless at iso 400 and below, alot have very low noise performance at iso 800 and below, ) in comparison, for compacts, ISO200 can be equivalent to iso 1600 on dslrs even...

d) depth of field. because the actual focal length of a compact's lenses are usually miniscule (5mm eg), that means they have tremendous depth of field. in contrast, the dslr allows you to play with blurred out backgrounds etc.

e) image quality. size of sensor and lens matters. in terms of resolution detail.

I'm sure there are others like accessories, filters , flashes, tripods, verticle grips

low digital noise is a BIG factor with DSLRs... a REALLY big factor!

Of course, all a matter of preference -I shoot at 1600 on a frequent basis with my 300D - and am happy with the noise - I've seen digitals at 200ISO with terrible noise.

I was refering to the V-1, Thanks for clearing it up though :). I'm leaning towards a compact, because I think it would be a worthy tradeoff. What are your opinions?
