Nice ornate and ray! Try to improve your tank lightings and reduce the chance of using flash to avoid getting flash reflections on the glass and the ornate's eyes.
You are actually right to shoot at an angle for the last pic but you have picked the angle wrongly and resulted in the flash reflection.
Keep it up and hope to see more pics soon.

thanx. i'll throw 2 15 watt lights i have left over from a failed planted tank, but i think the have a pinkish hue to them, so that might throw off the colors a little. thanx for the tips [smilie=thumbup.gif]

the first one came out a little better with the new lights, but my close ups are always grainy [smilie=sad.gif]

Maybe you are being too close. What camera are you using?

Kodak EasyShare CX7300 3.2mp . would it be better if i backed up and used the zoom feature, or is that as good as it gets with this camera?

From the specs listed on DPReview, it looks like you have a locked focal length and no macro capability (i.e., close-up focus). So you might be limited on how close you can get. You can digitally "zoom" via an image editor like Photoshop.
Your images sans flash look better I think.

those last 2 shots were without flash. i'll try and get more lights for the tank, hopefully that will help a little more.

nice ray ray..its kinda cute. :)
tey micromode, or try backing up, it might help.. [smilie=kewlpics.gif]
Nicholo is right, if you are on fully auto (point and shoot, no options) the only way to fool the camera to make shutter speed faster is to add a LOT of lighting. I do about 300 W on my 110g to get good lighting. You do need power compacts for those kind of amounts.

Cute ray!!! I love how they hover over your hand to feed!
No macro is hard, but zooming is fun, don't worry I swear it :)
