Feel free to look at the others there, the camera is a kodak DX6490,

is that a bad thing ? i dont see many kodaks mention here

Thanks for any help guys (i didnt realise taking the iso down so low would make things better, ill try shooting at 80 next time i get chance)

The first one is very nice!
Sharp and nice :)

The rest of them are pretty much out of focus.
Not much else to say, focus is important but it migth take yoy some practise before you get it rigth.

Hi kev,

You might want to try using an image host that allows direct hot linking of images. I'm using www.photobucket.com and it's not bad. A lot of folks may not click through to the links to view the images.

I agree with Roy that the first one is probably the nicest of the lot.

As for the rest of the pictures, here' s my honest take on them.

1. A lot of the pictures are too distracting or have to may subject that's fighting for attention

2. Look out for overexposure or relfection. Like featherfins.JPG and JDdom.JPG

3. Zoom or crop tighter for a better presentation. Unless you are presenting the fish in a biotope environment or presenting a tank gallery, it's much more effective to zoom in.

Hope the above helps.

Cheers,

Macro helps you get focus of things that are close to you, really recomend it for Aqua photo's.
To turn on the macro with DX6490: Under the flash switch and one button to the right, you will se a flower and a mountain, press it ones so the flower show on the LCD or that other screen.
Then you will manage to get better focus :)

I wish I had been able to take photos half as good as these when I started. Well done. Nice fish too :)
My suggestion is that you should get out your favourite fish book or magazine and study the photos, perhaps picking out one or two favourites. Then ask yourself if you could take something similar. Then have a go.
Good luck

I thought APF was offering image hosting to members now.

Kev, exposure is controlled by the shutter speed setting, you pick the aperature, based on the DOF you are trying to achieve, and then shutter speed depending on your lighting, take test shots and erase the bad ones. That is the "simple and easy" way. :-)

Oh, AND YES, we do offer photo hosting, no need for any "buckets" :-) Check out our gallery, you can direct link any of the images in the gallery. You are given 2mb standard, but there are 5, 10, 20, and 40 mb options available, on the Nav. Menu, click on Contribute.
