Keep them coming!!!

[smilie=an9.gif]

Paradise, I messed with the software a bit, will try messin' around some more tomorrow. I took a few notes from your post on the "before & after", thank you.

These are bit "grainy", I think because they were a little smaller to start with and the glass was very "spotty" so I had to mess with the contrast, brightness and work on the background quite a bit to settle down all the "spots", didn't get 'em all but these are better than the "before" versions. Haven't quite figured out the "sharpen/soften" and the "edging" features yet, maybe tomorrow.

I was using the flower (macro?) setting and had the ISO @50, these shots, the ISO was at 400. Maybe that is the cause of the "grainy" look?

These are all Megs fish, but she had the light set up on there and I wanted to try it. [smilie=biggrin.gif]

Nice looking Fish.
I like the colors on the JD And Gramodes.
The pleco looks sweet!

The grainy reason Is becuase of the High ISO. Thats why
I end up having to run some of my photos through Neat Image.

There are two reasons for grainy pics, either it's the ISO, and you should be able to control it, or you are OVER sharpening, that is what brings that uniform noise. Try what I was saying, sharpen one little step at a time, and when you notice that noise, go back one. There are better ways, using unsharp masks, but it's a bit more complicated. This should work.

They are very nice pics, you are improving in leaps. Try downloading Neatimage (www.neatimage.com) and running them through on auto setting.

Hopefully Meg will read this and dl the software for us! Thanks for the advice, I'm not sure if I even used the sharpening tool in Adobe on these, but I will try tonight using your advice from the "before & after" thread. Crop and Save, then make changes (writing them down?) and do another "save as".

Maybe that will help me remember!

Love the Dempsey!!! keep practicing!

Oh, it's pretty simple. (we are talking about netimage right?) Just open the file, go to the next tab (device noise profile) , select with your mouse a background area and click on the button next to the words (Rough noise analyzer), make sure first the area you selected is big enough, it will say "selection can be analyzed). Then go to the last tab, "output image" and click on APPLY. That is all, if you like it save the output file (it gives you a name, but you can choose your own), or if you dont like it, you can adjust the filter settings in "Noise filter settings".

Okay, I tried it with the Gold Nugget pic:

it would be nice if the background could be 'neatimaged' a normal amount and the actual fish only 'neatimaged' about 50%.

the pleco pic turned out pretty good, but i have seen some 'neatimaged' pics where it looks like the fish has makeup on and no scales.

That happens when the person uses the fish itself in the pic as a sample for the program, and it thinks that it's a background part. You should only use the background in Netimage and make sure not to select parts that are similar in colors to the actual fish.

Hey! Thanks for that p! At least now i know how to use it. I was trying to figure that out for the past few days.

Looks like it's the high ISO that caused the noise. That reminds me my old kodak DC. Put more tank light can help to minimize the noise. I've also learning how to use NI software. I found it wipe out some details of the main subject sometimes. (or maybe I didn't do it rite?)

Yeah, I noticed that too! Also, if you magnify the image to have a look, there's some patchy stuff left from the noise reduction. Not very obvious when sized down, but at originaly resolution, it's somtimes very visible, especially in the non background areas.

Am I doing something wrong?

Cheers,
