Nikon has today announced the Coolpix 4800, a four megapixel camera with an 8.3x optical zoom. Designed to appeal to "quality and performance-conscious consumers" Nikon's new baby offers a 36 - 300mm focal length, 1cm macro mode, 15 scene modes, Nikon Best Shot Selector (BSS) and AE-BSS, and a voice memo functionality. It will be available in November priced £349 (approx $515).

Check it out.

i know what this means... people coming into the store asking for them...

oh, and ya know what else - we've STILL got the original 8700s that we were sent - nobody wants them!

As I was saying to Jay earlier, the product life cycle these days for such products is incredibly short. Some retailers here are selling the cameras on an indent basis to avoid being loaded with obsolete models.

well, in the nikons we've got : 2200, 3200, 4100, 5200, 8700 (still in box out the back as nobody is interested), a 4300 (yes, a 4300), and the D70 (which no one looks at now - they're all interested in the 20D).

Whats the most popular? the 2200, 3200, 4100 and 5200 because they're small!

At our store, the only canon's we stock is the A series, a couple digital elphs, and the digital rebel (which is the best seller in the canons).

Other cameras include the fuji lineup (most of them), and a couple minoltas, sonys (T1, W1, P10, and the new P120 - in a kit available only through ritz)

Oh and the casio exilm - a nice little camera.

Please post your store location on Dpreview. There are hundreds of people looking for this camera at decent price.

they're all interested in the 20D).

And give them few more months and you are going to have 20D sitting in the corner and everyone will be asking for D200.

Works like that everytime.

Weird, is it still worth it for camera companies to do this, they are killing themselves. It's the same as the computer business in the 90's where they had new processors every 4-6 months and eventually ran the small stores out of business, so now only big chains can compete. The difference and the extra benefit of each successive model is so marginal and yet people are going for it, huh???? I wonder...

I would, but if they just look on the ritz camera or wolf camera website, our prices are the same no matter what store you go to.

yup, we're the largest camera store chain in the US. who cares? we're a smaller store, so we don't have the full range - but why bother? If someone wants the newest camera, and just want to buy it, they can order either on our website, or order it through the store, and just get it shipped to home. Its funny really. The fact that the 8700 has really only been out for a few months, and now the 8800 is coming out? I shoulda realised somethin funny was going on, as we've got rebate forms for the 8700 - a $200 rebate. Shoulda picked up on it.... I actually posted that on another forum - didn't get much response though.

We had the A80, and the A85. Apart from the different screens on the back, for the basick user, they were essentially the same camera.

Hmm.... I would really be interested to see how the 8800 perform as compared to Lumix FZ10 and FZ20.
