OK, here is a quick one. Basic photoshop cleaning and levels, I dont know what those really look like so it's difficult to gauge the 'right' colors, but I tried. Then NeatImage for background ONLY noise removal, low settings. Simple and clean.

The colors look good. My only problem with touching up photos like this is that they start to look 'pixilated'.

I can see the effect clearly in the lower right of the iris in the eye on the lower fish in the image. Compare the two spots carefully, and you can see that the original image has a smooth round edge to the gold iris, but the enhances image has a 'geometric' edge.

Would that have been the case if the image had been kept at the original size (the enhanced image in smaller), or would it have been more noticeable?

Hmm... It originally actually looks quite pixilated too. For example the nape of the fish in the front and the profile of the fish at the back. After the enhancement, they look smoothened.

I suppose you win some and you lose some.

The original is not well focused in any case. I will try to post one of the same fish that is better focus and see if that makes a difference.

Here is the same fish but in a better shot. See if a better shot provides for a better enhancment...

The image that shows up in here looks more pixilated to me...

This forum has an automatic feature where images are resized to a predetermined width if they're too large. When the picture is shrunk down you often get the pixilated effect.

Someone else probably knows what the automatic width is...

600 mpx :) That is correct, but if you click on the image, you see the full photo, and it's still pixelated.

OK, here is my latest attempt. Very little changed. I cropped and resized, to bring out the foreground a little better, and then did the usual levels and curves adjustment. A slight sharpening, and got this.

After a run through Netimage (low settings, trying not to disturb foreground fish) got this:
