DSLR users,

What lenses do you use when taking aquatic photos ?.

I was successful when using 18-70mm but had to get close to the tank to get sharp image and good closeup. The other day I tried my 70-200mm VR and was amazed with how I was able to get sharp images, good closeups + increase distance between end of the lens and tank. I was having a hard time with 18-70mm b/c fishes were swimming left and right when they noticed the camera and body movement in front of the tank. With 70-200 I was about 4-5 feet away and taking one picture after another without any fish movement.

I am using a macro lens of 90mm and my focusing distance is usually about a feet away.

I use my tamron 28-75 f/2.8 Xr Di for recent shots. I'm picking up my sigma 70-200 f/2.8 after work and have a 50mm f/1.8 on the way :) So I'll probably start using the 70-200 for most of my close up shots. Almost thinking about the tamron 90mm or sigma 105mm macro lenses for their close-in focus ability (easier to use a diffuse flash when close up compared to the farther minimum focus distance on the 70-200).

I did not buy specific lenses for aquaristic photography...

I use a canon 20D...
My lenses are : 24-70 f2.8 and a 70-200 IS f2.8

The 24-70 gives a bigger magnification ratio, while the 70-200 IS allows some more distance during shooting... It gives me a nices and more important DOF...

For macroshots, I use Kenko Extension Tubes, but it is rather hard to get good shots with these...

try using a prime. like a 50mm or 85mm for your extension tubes - i' have more sucess that way than with zooms.
