View Full Version : Arowana!
Hi guys,
Here is another picture of an Arowana that I took at Aquarama 2003.
http://benny.clubsnap.org/gallery/albums/album76/IMG_4193R.jpg
Was trying to show the beautiful planted setup, so I didn't get that close. I think it's a beauty, but it's waaayy beyond my means to own one.

Beautiful Arowana.
At this years AGA Convention on our trip to Dallas Aquarium, I had a pleasure to look at one of those bad boys. Unfortunately tank setup wasn't as good as this one.
I see some healthy Microsorium pteropus, L. arcuata, Aponogeton ulvaceus and Lilaeopsis sp ?
Did you stick your flash from above as well [smilie=biggrin.gif]

WOW, I wish I had a tank like that. What is the name of the ground cover in that photo that looks like grass? Is it one of the plants you mentionned Jay?

I used to have a silver arawonna. Coolest thing ever, but the others ganged up and attacked it. i was too late to find them.

It looks like Lilaeopsis sp to me.

Hi Jay,
This is one of those instant planted tanks set up all over the Aquarama 2003 exhibition. The foreground plants are mostly carpet patches/tiles. Background are moss wall and the rest are usually tied on driftwood or in pots and placed behind rocks and other decorations. The aquascape was set up the night before and takes only a few hours to put together.
You are quite right about the plants, The foreground plant should be Lilaeopsis brasiliensis. The backwall is Christmas Moss and the stem plant at the top right corner is Rotala rotundifolia 'Green' if I remember correctly.
The picture was taken with existing tank light and hand held. No flash was used as it was covered tank. I think I had the ISO set at 800 or 1000. As this picture is sized down, the noise level is not very obvious.
If you like, I can show you some more of these "instant" planted aquascape setups.
Cheers,

Sure.
You can email them to me or post them here.

Ok..they are not very good as the shooting conditions there are spoilt by reflections from all the bright lights. But anyway...here goes.

This is from Juwel Aquarium.

Another one from Juwel. Curved tank are not my favorite.

This one is from Tetra, rent from Juwel as I understood. The foreground is Hygrophila difformis. Definitely not a long term arrangement.
Cheers,
This one is the best in the show in my opinion.

It's from Tropica. Their setup is the only on in the show not contracted to the local company.
Here's another.

Could not get a full frontal shot as there was a meeting in front of the tank. This picture does not do the aquascape justice.
Tropical was also promoting their aqua cube there.

That's all folks!

Thanks again for sharing Benny. I have to agree with you about your favorite tank, although they all look great.
Do you know the tank size and lighting of those Aqua Cubes, they look nice.
Those are really great planted tanks. [smilie=c:
