So I went and borrowed one of the strips from my other tank to give it a little more lighting and this is what I came up with. I tried to take the flash picture at an angle like it was suggested...and the others were taken on the shutter speed priority mode on my camera (I dont know how to use the manuel features just yet :)...Although the pictures are still really dark, you can actually see the fishes real colors, so im getting somewhere!!

Is the white balance set on this camera? It seems blueish to my montior, probably the reflection from the gravel off the fish. Either way, you should have a one push white balance option, where you aim it at a white or neutral subject in the picture, and it will set it for you. If that doesn't work, try the flourescent option if yours has it.

The first one is distorted from too much angle, you don't need that much angle, hehe. Try ripping off a piece of tissue paper and holding it over the flash bulb, and increase or decrease tissue layers until the ideal exposure is reached. This way you can get used to how many layers relate to which aperture and so on. The second one is too close, either because you didn't have macro on, or because the minimum focusing distance wasn't met while zoomed. I believe it's a 4.5" minimum on the macro, so it seems one of those.

The third one is the best, though composition-wise, you should stay away from taking pictures near the corner, as the unsightly seam is distracting. The subject is sharp, but the color is off as compared to the warm flash light in the first one. Oh, and there is Dirty Tank Syndrome (DTS) going on in all of em!!!

HTH, (hope this helps)
Tony
