Pics #5 and #10 are from the same photographer! Is that allowed in this contest?

Nicholo

Yeah, we're all seeing different stuff apparently. I still see the NonA pics this morning. No fish pics.

Hi Nicholo,
have you tried the link in my last post ?

I still see the NonA pics this morning.

I think it must be the coding. Ed, you might want to use different file names from previous months. The folks here may have the images in their cache and hence only see the wrong images.

Guys, clear your cache and temporary internet files. Hope it works.

Cheers,

wow, I dont know what is going on. All you have to do is reload the page guys.

As far as the comment on two pics by the same guy, NO, usually that would not be allowed, BUT, I ended up w/only 8 photos, so I used 2 of them, and one of mine

WE are getting busier and busier as far as post and thread count. But POTM submissions and voting has been abysmal. We are trying to figure it out, but nothing is helping so far.

12-03-2004, 1:05 PM
OK, I fixed and renamed the images to be unique, every month from now on. It's weird, we never had that problem. It may have something to do w/the photo shrink mod. Anyways, please let me know if you still have problems. You may still have to refresh the page.

Submission numbers aside, I think the quality of entries in this contest are as good or maybe even better than last month's. That at least was the reason I haven't submitted anything yet, simply because while I'm proud of my photos and think they are getting better, I realize they aren't up to par with the stuff people are submitting here. It's not a number of people on the site thing, it's a "holy damn the competition is stiff" issue.

Though to be honest, I don't recall seeing an anouncement that you were taking submissions for POTM at any point, so maybe like me, people just missed it. I dunno, still amazing pictures anyway, I voted and put in my two cents

12-03-2004, 7:32 PM
ElTwitcho, submit, submit, submit. What's the worst that can happen, right?

As far as the announcement, there is a rolling marquee at the top of each page, 3-4 emails this month, and the fact that it's MONTHLY :) :) :)

Woah woah woah, I never said or implied that I was observant... ;)

You can count on me for next month anyhow, my shots are still not quite up there but coming along very nicely IMO.

Hey Ed, it's weird that though set the poll as "NO" show the poll results, I can still see the voting result.

12-07-2004, 2:42 PM
CDM it's all part of the same problem we are having w/no info shown and no quick reply or other things. Daniel is working on it. One of the files for this site was reverted back to it's original state, so it's not passing on the info to the site on all the cool modifications, such as the Vote mod, the Quick reply, the Merit badges, the phish amount, and all personal user info. IT's all there, just not showing up in the threads. We know what the problem is and are working on it.

Hey it's a great contest again! No one would know that our POTM participation was weird this month unless you told them! Great job everyone, I have a feeling this one isn't so clear cut......

But Ed, you have my entry for next month now that I'm finally moved into my new apartment!!

Thanks,
Tony

Hi,
it makes me sad seeing only 14 people out of 520+ voting... (less than 3%)

- but still better than cf (about 100 votes/pic out of 18993 members) = 0.5%

- active contest on my own site: 10 out of 50 (incredible 20% ;-) - but iīm not happy with the total number :-/ )

The contest here is still running, so itīs not too late...!

This APF POTM contest is really making things difficult for me.. difficult to choose, that is. Your pictures are all so seriously good!! As a forum, the community is pretty small but I can safely say this place has HIGHEST concentration of excellent photographers. [smilie=c: Good job, guys!

Damn, Excellent Pictures!
I will try to make it in the Next Contest.
Its Twice a month right Ed?

12-12-2004, 4:56 PM
Mikal, it's once a month for Aquatic and once for Non-Aquatic. 1st to 16th aqua, 15th through 30th non-aqua.

Now, remember this is the last aquatic one for two month, the next one to submit will be February, 'cause next month is the POT YEAR, where the POTM winners will compete for the best photo of the year. I am also working on a whole different POTM system for next year (possibly)

unfortunately andreas, out of the 500+ registered users on this board, i'm guessing about 20 to be "active" users.

On certain forums, the admin "prune" members as well as posts. I suppose this topic warrants a separate discussion?

Cheers,

Never fear kids -- I just got around to voting! That makes it 27 votes! Some very nice shots this go-around..., too bad I didn't get you a pic this time, Ed. I'll get my act together for Feb!

12-13-2004, 1:15 AM
Nicholo, my inbox is always open to any and all submissions :) :) :) (hint hint everyone)

BTW, there are only 3 days left for DECEMBER Non-Aquatic POTM, the entries are coming in really well actually but we always can use more, gives us the best 10 to choose from :)

Just submitted you a Non-A photo. If you don't get it, lemme know..., cheers!

Oh, please donīt get me wrong, it was not my intention to suggest deleting inactive users.

12-13-2004, 12:50 PM
prunning is unnecessary, larger number of total users (whether they are active or not) gives a new visitor a feeling of a larger community. It could be false (like here) but it gets attention. I think our "active" group is growing, but it's such a specialized forum, it's hard to get that many people to participate. I am always looking for "new" ideas for APF, so if you have one, everyone, spill them at me, by PM or in the suggestions forum.
