We have two new announcements to make, but since one has SOOO much to do with the other, I felt we can combine them and announce together.
APF GALLERY / PHOTO HOSTING:
=======================
Our gallery is now up and running. It is another way you can host photographs to post here on APF or elsewhere on the net. The images are easily linked by right clicking and getting the image address. They should work anywhere online. Each registered member gets 2 Megabytes of space, and ONE folder (preferably your APF username) to host the photos. IF you read about the contributor program below, you can see how to get A LOT more image space, up to 40 MB !!!, and up to Unlimited Folders to be able to organize your files.
To get to the gallery, click on the Gallery button on the Navigation bar on top of every page.
APF CONTRIBUTOR PROGRAM
=====================
Running a forum is a very difficult and EXPENSIVE task. We have created a new Contribution/Donation system that will allow you to easily donate money to the site. We wanted to make sure that we reward the people who make this site better by helping us finance the development of APF, so we created features that will be EXCLUSIVE to those members who contribute, plus added VERY HEFTY amounts to Gallery Hosting, making the top two levels VERY competitive with any other online Image Hosting solutions.
To get complete details about our Contributor Program, please click on the "Contribute" button on the Navigation bar.

Couple of points on the Contributor's Program
1) Is this a one-off payment or is an annual contribution required to maintain the privileges from year to year?
2) The Paypal button doesn't work.

Kid, it's a one time contribution. It's not a subscription to a yearly fee, but a free service from us, to thank you for helping us out. :)
Kid, the paypal button works fine for me, PM me if you get an error message. When you click it should open a Paypal donate window w/our name filled in :)

By the way, I forgot to mention something.
I want to personally thank all the members who Contributed to APF even before we announced this system and all the cool perks!!!! You all know who you are, and if someone does not know, you have the merit under your name to prove it :)

Ok, just to make sure I understand the gallery thing. I can upload pictures here. Can I link to them only from apf? Or could I link to them from any other webiste, for instance, my own, or another forum I wish to show pictures on?

You can post your gallery pictures anywhere you want.

We hope you post some here, but you CAN link to them from anywhere. Under each picture, there is 3 lines of code, to put into: webpabes, forums, and others. You get 2mb as a member. More if you are a contributor, 10,20 or 40mb.

I am going to become a contributor first time I can get into town and get a money order . But for now I have only three pictures in the gallery and can't add any more . Have I done something wrong or are my pictures to big ?

Ron,
Each registered member gets ONLY 2 Megabytes of space. I checked your pictures and two of them were ~400KB a piece. At that rate, you will be able to get ~4 photographs or so.
PS. I wouldn't recommend using such big compression for online posting. Stick to ~ 100KB and you should by satisfied with the quality. In PhotoShop instead of Save / Save As, chose Save To Web and from drop down menu pick JPEG / ~ 80% quality to get 100KB - depending on the file.
Good luck and thank you for your contribution.

Just checking. Please let us know if you have any additional questions.Yes, I had seen that. I was just wondering about the ability to link fom other sites. I have my share of webshots, shutterfly and photobucket hosting space, but if I can do that from here that's even better. As it is a one time contribution, it has about the same financial impact as the free services (sounds maybe crazy, but that's how I feel about it, it's just a one time purchase without annual cash-flow-away :-) )
I am now just trying to choose how much I am willing to donate.

Ok, I joined... Just one more question. Is there a suggested best format to upload the pictures. I mean, what size? what compression? I know it's "the better the bigger", but there must be some general best setting...

Peter, Thank you for your contribution, your platinum status is now up. As far as file sizes, read Jay's suggestion to Ron above your request. That seems to be the stanadard for web pics.

Ed ,
I am going to town right now to get a money order . As I understand it I will make this payable to you .
We have paypal but my wife reserves it for herself . Besides if I used it I would have to justify everything I do .

Your welcome! At the moment I try 640*480 pixels and 75% on the jpg compression. It seems to work allright.

well, it's not that obvious. Click on your image, then you get right above the picture an image tools menu option/button, when you click that, choose edit picture. in the screen you get then is a checkbox and a delete button.
