I was hoping that someone could post a sampling of fish shots taken with the D70 using the nikkor 50mm 1.8 D lens. I t has been reccommended as a good lens for the beginner aquatic photographer, like myself.

I can not post samples, as I am a Canon guy, but I will tell you that it's probably the BEST aquatic lens out of the affordable range. The 1.8 aperature is amazing for taking photos w/out flash. Otherwise, with most other lenses, you run into shutter speed problems because of the lower aperature floor. I have the Canon equivalent, same thing 50mm 1.8, and it's excellent. I have been playing around with my new 100mm 2.8 Macro for aquatic and it has really good results but is much heavier and harder to do handheld with, specially on smaller subjects. I say for the price, it's amazing, go for it.

Since I respect your oppinion, I just oredered the 50mm 1.8d lens. I don't need to wait and see if any pics are posted. Your work is outstanding and your word is good enough for me. Thanks for your help and hopefully I'll be able to show results with the new lens in a few days.
Thanks again.
hey man, you can't lose with that lens for $100. i use it often for my walkaround lens, it's very small and very light. and extremely sharp.

Yeah, it sounds like a lens I can leave on the camera and be ready to fire when an oppurtunity arises. You know, like when my clown loach decides to take a nap on it's side, etc.
Thanks for your suggestion earlier in another post. It sounds like a no brainer...even for me.
Here's a picture that I just took minutes ago w/the lens on the D70. No crops and just used USM.

UnSharp Mask available in PhotoShop.
You can read more about it here: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/understanding-series/understanding-usm.shtml
Pretty close to the subject...probably around 6-8" away. These guys recognize me as a source of food and will hug the front glass, even when I'm moving around w/the camera. Forgot to mention that this is also one of the first shots that I've taken w/the SB-800 flash on remote (triggered by onboard flash).
USM is unsharp mask as Jay said.
