People scratch their heads and can't figure how to set Nikon D70 w/ SB-800 wireless. Even Nikon's step-by-step manual is not clear here.
This is fool-proof step-by-step. Let me know if you have additional questions.
Flash setup
#1. Turn your flash ON
#2. Press SEL and hold it until you get to the Menu
#3. Scroll left / right / up / down until you get Master / Remote / SU-4 step which shows on the right of the screen
#4 Press SEL and you will enter Master / Remote / SU-4 option
#5 Scroll up or down until you get REMOTE
#6 Press SEL
#7 Press ON/OFF button
#8 Now you should see BIG sign on the display - REMOTE and 2 boxes CH and Group
#9 by clicking SEL and left and right you want to select:
x CH - 3
x GROUP - A
This is the only way you will get the flash to work wireless
Camera setup
#1 select MENU
#2 select CSM Menu - (Pen Icon)
#3 select option 19 in detail section of the CSM menu
#4 you will have 3 options TTL / Manual / Commander Mode
#5 select Commander Mode --> TTL
You have to have your on-board flash open as trigger (* It will not add to overall exposure)
You are DONE !!! Don't forget to reset your settings if wireless is not in use.
Nice of you to move it onto another thread (sticky this perhaps?). Might want to add that option 19 isn't available until you actually go through the detail section of the CSM menu (compressed menu only has 9 options).

How do you access the "detail section" of the CSM menu? (sorry....i'm a novice)

Okay.....figured out how to access the "detail section" of the CSM menu. But, now another question.......Option # 19 is "disabled" and I can't seem to select it.
(I can already sense alot of you guys shaking your heads in disgust with my novice dumb questions........but, I must admit I am clearly out of my league here. This is probably more equipment than I can handle. But, I'll get it.)

Scaly - I have the same setup. So....
If u cannot figure out - Post here or PM Me and I shall get you all fixed up for Wireless Flash.
I am thinking perhaps you need to enable "Advanced Menu" or something like that to see all available options on the D70s.

Anyone able to help?
Thanks in advance...

Haven't posted for a loooong time due to lack of time to take pics!!
Noticed this topic and thought it would be a good place to ask everyone's experiences with the wireless remote. I go it to work long time ago but gave up using it (bought a cable instead) as the pre-flashes that are emitted to control the remote flash was enough to spook the fish! I was shooting show bettas and those milisecond flashes caused the fish to react and thus you would loose the shot:'(
Is this something you fish photographers are getting as well, or is my setting still wrong?:-D

I have not had that problem when shooting my cichlids with wireless remote flash. As much as I move around when shooting my tanks, a cable would be bad!
It's possible to do so w/a wired sync cord (I've used the SC-17, SC-28, and SC-29). You just have to be careful w/the wire since you're tethered. I only do it when I have a limited amount of time (couple of minutes per tank) when I can't really wait for the fish to acclimate to seeing the above tank flash. If you don't have a time issue, then I would just use commander mode; most fish are accustomed to the preflash in a matter of minutes.
I've since switched to the SU-800 unit and still have the wires sitting around (that reminds me, I should sell those now).

That is what I ended up doing at the end of the day - Works well. For bettas, they never get used to the preflash - they just react to them, probably thinking it's a threat/challenge.
Do you find the SU-800 works well for fish photography?
Bettas aren't too bad; just give it some time. There's more than a few of us on here who has used sync cords for photographing them. ;)
The SU-800 works extremely well. I haven't tested out the R1 kit that came as part of it (picked up the R1C1), but the controller definitely expands the possibilities of shooting with multiple flashes.
