Hi folks,

I don't currently have a lens hood for my Nikkor 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 D-AF Lens. :(

I'm looking to buy the Nikon HB-18 hood. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=165845&is=REG

How good are the Nikkon hoods? Just interested in some feedback, and any available alternatives.
Are they essential for aquatic photography?

Cheers,
Jason

They are good. There is nothing special about actual material.

any available alternatives.
There are alternatives like rubber Hoya hoods but I would stick to HB-18 for your lens. It is perfectly matched for this model.

Are they essential for aquatic photography?
No they are not. The only time you would actually make use of the hood is when doing macro photography and you need to "lay" the lens on the glass. Instead of touching aquarium glass with lens glass, you would use the hood.

Lens hood is primarily used for sun glares when doing landscape photography or any photography.
