View Full Version : Canon launches successor to Digital Rebel/300D
Hi guys,
It's out and here are the details of the NEW Canon Digital Rebel XT/350D.....
http://www.pma-show.com/review/canon/EOS_REBEL_XT_002.jpg
Photo and more details at the PMA website. (http://www.pma-show.com/review/canon/001_EOS_digital_rebel_xt.html)
Some details..
- 8MP
- DIGIC II
- E-TTL II
- Selectable focus modes (One-Shot AF, AI SERVO and AI Focus)
- Mirror lock-up
- 2nd curtain flash
- 3fps for 14 shots
- 0.2 second statup time
- Writing to memory card is 3.5 times faster
- Improved flash at guide number of 13 and higher from optical axis with FEC function
Besides ISO3200 and the buffer, the 350D has almost the same specs as the 20D.
By the way, the vertical grip is BG-E3, NOT BG-ED3 (although it looks like)! And the new grip can accomodate 6 AA batt as well.
With this release, Canon now has the leading performance camera in every D-SLR segment in terms of spped and resolution; all launched since January last year:
EOS-1Ds Mark II - 16.7 Megapixel full frame 35mm sensor, 4 fps
EOS-1D Mark II - 8.2 Megapixel APS-H size sensor, 8.5 fps
EOS 20D - 8.2 Megapixel APS-C size sensor, 5.0 fps
EOS Digital Rebel XT - 8.0 Megapixel APS-C size sensor, 3.0 fps
For those still looking at the Canon Digital Rebel/300D or the Nikon D70, here's something to mess up all your previous research and start all over again.
Cheers,

Wow, looks good. Let's see what the price is like. Probably will replace DRebel as the $900 price tag cam.

Awesome
Where is top LCD panel
Nikon was always a small company which targeted those "true" photographers with new models at small speed. Canon is like a Runaway Train...... Nikon can't catch up.
I can't wait for D200...
nice upgrades. i bet it will be more like the $1300-1400 range.

npe, it'll be at the $1000 pricepoint.
the 20D kit is $1499, i can't see it more expensive than that.
good point. at that price, nikon is gonna have to drastically drop their d70 prices. and i've already seen people switch to canon. they are in trouble if they don't pull their heads out. they better have something up their sleeves other than a d2hs.

Oooh ... nice camera. Can't wait for the review from dpreview.com - looks like I've already decided on which D-SLR to buy. :P
P.S. I know it's off topic, but does the EOS 350D and 20D come with a similar 'Commander mode' (like the Nikon D70?). That way, I can save money from buying a flash gun.

benny, you mean Jay, right? :-)
I guess the D20 is still a better camera, right?

Well...we are using Canon.... so how can it be Jay!?
In any case....I still stand by my opinion that it's the technique, not the camera. And similarly, not the brand. At the end of the day, a good picture is a good picture, regardless of whatever brand, camera, photographer, etc.
Cheers,

hmmm.. judging from this comment, you might want to read up more on the commander mode.

Ok, I know I'm asking some silly questions but I'll ask ahead anyway ... and, and I created a new thread to ask the same question (otherwise I'm going off-topic)

It's not a sillly question. The only question that's silly is the one you want to ask but didn't.
I'm just concerned that your understanding of the commander mode maybe different from what it actually is. This may result in disappointment with the equipment later. A more thorough research will be prudent before purchase to ensure that expectations meet with reality.
I'm glad to hear that you've started a new thread and I'm sure this will be a good discussion.

Benny,
I agree with you 100%.
This is "back in a days" opinion. All those nature/landscape, mellow artists were Nikon users. Many old school photogs will tell you that. Canon always tried to target those sporty, up to speed, "wanting more" photogs.
Look at the both brand's line ups. Canon is coming out with new camera every week while Nikon is simply sticking to Quality ...... but that's simply is pissing many Nikon users off...
PS. Where is my damn D200

Mirror lock-up!
Thank God for that one. Better night shots.
