View Full Version : I'm confused!

I understand that you all are trying to constantly improve this site. But, honestly, I can't keep up with the changes.

Currently I can't figure out how to view the members galleries. I find myself stuck on the main gallery and can't locate mine. Also, am I now just contributing photos to be posted and displayed for the forum administrator's distribution and descretion (if that's the case I doubt if the quality of mine will make the cut anyway)? Can I use the site to store, view and catergorize some photos in my own location? Frankly, I'm getting so frustrated that my only interest in this site is leaning toward obtaining and sharing technical information and not the photo galleries.

Hopefully I'm just missing a few connectors because I initially was quite excited when I discovered this site. Perhaps a few instructions are needed for me to better navigate around here. I normally have better patience, but confusion seems to interfere.

Thank you again for your contribution and patience while we are trying to improve this Forum. Let's take it from the top....

Currently I can't figure out how to view the members galleries. I find myself stuck on the main gallery and can't locate mine.
This is extremely easy.

#1. Click on Gallery in Navigation Bar (on top)
#2. That link will take you here --> http://aquatic-photography.com/gallery/
#3. Click on Member's Categories which is located under Category / Description (top portion)
#4. That link will take you here --> http://aquatic-photography.com/gallery/browseimages.php?c=3
#5. Locate your name (alphabetical order). Currently your name is on the #2 page
#6. By clicking on your name you will get here --> http://aquatic-photography.com/gallery/browseimages.php?c=3&userid=611

You are DONE !

Also, am I now just contributing photos to be posted and displayed for the forum administrator's distribution and descretion (if that's the case I doubt if the quality of mine will make the cut anyway)?
Not sure what you mean. All pictures are allowed in your personal gallery. We do NOT pick and chose which pictures are allowed for upload. We do NOT use any of your pictures to perform personal or forum's projects (* if we do, we ask for permission).

Can I use the site to store, view and catergorize some photos in my own location?
As GOLD contributor you have the following perks:

Exclusive Features:
- ability to choose custom title
- ability to attach images to posts
- no advertising banners
- Gallery size: 20 megabytes
- Folders allowed: unlimited

Frankly, I'm getting so frustrated that my only interest in this site is leaning toward obtaining and sharing technical information and not the photo galleries.
You are more then welcome to upload and share your photographs. APF intention is to encourage members to SHARE their pictures, not to avoid sharing ....

Hopefully I'm just missing a few connectors because I initially was quite excited when I discovered this site. Perhaps a few instructions are needed for me to better navigate around here. I normally have better patience, but confusion seems to interfere.
Hopefully I answered your questions and clarified your concerns. Please let me know if have any other questions and I make sure those will be answered ASAP.

Great explanation, Jay. I have only a couple of things to add:

Adding images to the gallery is VERY EASY:
1. Go to the Gallery
2. Choose Upload from the menu on top
3. Select your images (5 at a time)
4. Choose : Member's Categories as the Location
5. Add whatever else info you would like, title.... but you can also do it in the next step unless there is only one photo.
6. Click submit :-)

That is all.

As far as using our hosting to list photos on your own site, OF COURSE. That is the reason we have the HTML code below each image. We do it for you :-) The only thing we require is that the images have the "hosted on Aquatic Photography.com" watermark, which is Automatically applied to the images when you upload them.

Unlike other sites, which mess up your images, lowering quality, changing sizes, or other crazy things, we dont do any of that. Your image should be the same exact quality you uploaded + the watermark.

I hope that makes sense, please feel free to comment more here, or by PM to either me or Jay.

#3. Click on Member's Categories which is located under Category / Description (top portion)

The list under "Category/Description" now has the following: Main Category, Statistics, Newest 5 Images and Reading Images. "Members Categories" is not there...it use to be, but not now.

Not sure what you mean. All pictures are allowed in your personal gallery. We do NOT pick and chose which pictures are allowed for upload. We do NOT use any of your pictures to perform personal or forum's projects (* if we do, we ask for permission).

I am questioning because it was explained in a recent post that you all were automatically placing the photos in the proper gallery. Since I'm having problems finding my "members gallery", I am asking if I have any control over where my photo posts are used.

Ok, this is Edward (using our Test account). I just made my account EXACTLY the same as yours, so I see what you would see. You may need to refresh your screen, 'cause I see the gallery and there is "member's Categories". Here is what I see, yellow highlight:

http://aquatic-photography.com/pics/gallery1.jpg

When you click on that (if you see it) you will see the "automatically created" sub galleries using member names. Find one w/your name, that is where the images are. That is all we mean by "you all were automatically placing the photos in the proper gallery". The new version makes it UNIFORM so that people dont need to worry about how to create galleries, and dont create multiple weird galleries all over the place. Just Upload images using my instructions, pointing them to "member's categories" and they Automatically go into the folder with your name on it.

You as a contributing member, can also create SUB folders. Just click on "my stuff" then "category admin" and create whatever folders you want under Members Categories, and they will be Automatically inserted into your sub gallery. If you want an example, I just created a folder called Flowerhorns under my "paradise" gallery. Then if you ever want to upload to that folder, just choose that gallery as your destination and it should go there just fine.

We wont use your photos :-) it's JUST photo hosting, there are ONLY advantages to it, no drawbacks. It's 100% service for our members.

It's working now. Before when I clicked on the "Main Category" nothing happened. I refreshed the screen as per your suggestion and it jumped to the Members sub-category.

Never mind....ha ha. Thanks

I now better understand the results of the changes you made. Good work and I'm sorry if I created any confusion to you all. God knows I have enough of it to share.

Not a problem. I hope people actually read the thread and learn from it. You may have given me a reason to further explain how to do every thing. I may have to write up some tutorials using our articles section.

Thanks
Ed
