sttaaaaayyyy away from them

absolutely HORRIBLE quality. Chromatic aberation like you wouldn't believe, and its about as sharp as a ball of fuzz. Color, clarity and contrast are pretty much non existent.

we have one at work that sells for that, i've played with it once and its horrible.

Well, joke aside, these lenses ARE really crappy, or at least you can judge from all the other stuff they make, most specifically lens filters, adapters, any kind of hardware, and flashes. I purchased a few filters off Ebay from them unknowingly about 6 months ago, and found that the polarizer is really just a blue-tinted piece of glass, and that the "UV" filter is cloudy, enough to distort a picture pretty badly. Opteka is a cheap company that has thrived mainly on Ebay I'm finding, as I've not seen their products in many other places. Meriadoc, I'm surprised that your store even stocks one of this company's things, and it saddens me to know that this horrible company has grown enough to try their hand at lenses..........

With the advent of internet commerce and the surprising popularity of high quality digital photo equipment, there are bound to be deals that are too good to be true, so if you treasure your money and your sanity, try to avoid items that are priced unbelievably low on the internet, where you can't visually inspect the actual item and handle it. I have learned the hard way a few times, thankfully for low sums of money, and I feel the need to warn everyone when I see things like this! So, I apologize for talking your heads off, I'm just a worrysome kinda guy!

tony - its not that particular company.

we have a lens, and judging by the amount of dust on it, i'd say its been there a good four or five years now.

some people buy them unfortunately, they want a looong lens at a bargain price, and wonder why its so cheap. We've only got the one in stock, and its never been sold.

But i think there's only one lens that we sell, and its not by that company.

Hey good news to me that it's not Opteka, lol, I'm alright with being mistaken. A good lens of this size would cost SOOOOOOOOO much anyway, that it would probably be too expensive to produce and make profit! That and the weight, my arm wants to hurt thinking about it!

well, lemme put it this way - the canon 1200mm is a custom order through canon.

you order it, then they make it.

last count i think there was 7 or 8 of them in the USA, and Sports illustrated had most of them.

I guess, if you want the money ;)

there was a shot of someone using one - came with its own tripod supplied with it

i would bet that all these bargain 1000000000mm lenses are are basically as bad as each other. ed, i had a feeling you weren't serious, but still - i'd hate for some of our new users to see a thread like this and go buy it off of ebay. it could happen right? hehe. well anyways good luck with ur 20d when u get it. i'm sure you'll like it a lot.
