MsC that is a beautiful pic. What's the EXIF on this one, that would really help with an assesment. I dont know this fish very well, so I dont know how it compares to the "live" fish as far as colors... The only thing I see that is a bit off is a light border around the fish, specially visible around the fins.
Judging from the color of the bolbitis and the echindorus, I think the color balance is slight tinted towards yellow/green. Typical problem with planted tank lighting.
The fish is in perfect focus and an excellent side profile. The background is rather distracting. A slightly shallower depth of field will probable enhance the picture even more.
Technically an excellent photograph, being clear, crisp and sharp, but with room for improvement in the background.
Cheers,
Interesting looking fish there. Have only seen pictures of similar ones and would love to add them into an Apisto tank (they're found in the same waters and definitely something different).
I find the background a bit distracting myself, especially the area around the dorsal fin area. The details get lost in the background. Also, does it look like there's noise in the picture, or is it just me?

I always reckon that if you can count the scales in the lateral line and all the fin rays, the photo is technically first class - this shot passes the test easily, well done!
I think it's slightly backlit, giving the light edge that Paradise spotted. Unfortunately this loses the lustre on the body that would be visible if there were a little more light on the camera side of the fish.
Am I right in guessing that it's still quite a young fish? If so, it will be spectacular when it grows up :-D

Thanks everyone.
Paradise, I'll look for the original file and post the EXIF.
Benny, you are right about the background. I debated on posting the pic because of that. But the fish was showing well and I didn't feel using PS to change the background would be fair.
Ibn, you are right about the noise. I was experimenting with under exposure; trying to get the histogram to fill the left of the scale. I adjusted the levels.... I think I went to far.
Alanhill, it is a young fish. I still have them and will eventually try to capture them in their full glory....one day. The back lighting comes from the aquarium light. A double strip on a 40 breeder. My intent was to have a fish properly backlit and properly lit on the front side. Got part of it right.
