Ok, here is what I think to be a great improvement for me. I am using a Nikon Coolpix 4100, and have come to the conclusion that I will never get a crisp pic without using flash. But, of course, flash washes out colors, sooo.. this is pretty much as good as it's gonna get as far as crispness. I'm looking for comments on composition, color, and any tips or tricks I can use to make better pictures with my lame camera lol.

ok, first off, this is a beautiful juvenile convict. he appears to have nice finnage and excellent coloration. as for the composition - the stem of the artificial plant going across the fish really ruins the photo. not to mention the fake looking branching. the leaves IMO could work as they aren't bad to look at, but try not to include where they attach to the stem. by all means try to get the fish in front of the plant. if it's agaist the front of the tank, perhaps you could rearrange it. as for the fish, it's not bad, it's fairly clean - but really dark. as you said flash can wash out colors... but if it's diffused, then your camera can allow lower iso, faster shutter, smaller aperture and a cleaner photo - without washing out the colors. if all you have is onboard flash, then you could increase your tank lighting. if that's not an option, then you could try to photograph your fish when it's closer to the top of the tank. or, you could improvise and create a bounce card to shoot your flash up, and then bounce it again back into the tank. not a bad attempt, but i don't believe it's the best possible shot you can take with your camera. keep shooting, and good luck! thanks for sharing this awesome fish with us.

Hehe, that is the chica. Here is another pic http://img221.exs.cx/img221/8158/con20oq.th.jpg (http://img221.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img221&image=con20oq.jpg)
Unfortunately, they are "having a family", so they are camera-shy, and sticking to one spot in the tank. I am going to talk to my grandma in law, who is a VERY accomplished photagrapher tomorrow, maybe I can borrow her camera. But thanks for the thumbs up, appreciate it. :-O
