Not sure if anyone is looking for one of these. I know that Jay has commented on this lens in the past, but not sure if he's still interested, especially with the 70-200mm VR in his arsenal. Here it is for those who might be:

Agree.

Excellent substitute for 70-200 is money is an issue. This lens was selling for as low as $130 and once people realized this was a gem, prices went up drastically.

Mr. Rockwell's rave review didn't hurt it either. He did go back and edit his review to say that people shouldn't be paying the $600-700 or whatever they were going for on ebay, which to me is a very honorable thing to do. some people see a good review by a 'credible' person (i know ken rockwell is very one-sided) and these types of things happen. i wouldn't doubt this lens is a good substitute for the 70-300, but i would recommend the 80-200 f2.8 over it for such high prices. it's not exactly a 'fast' lens @ f4-5.6

Agree.

I would never pay more than $400 for it, forget about $700.

Yup. Even the non-D version has surged up in price due to this. I picked one of these up awhile back and for the price, it's decent glass.
