Congratulations to Francine (MsCichlid) for winning this month's General POTM with a beautiful butterfly macro, against VERY GOOD competition of Tristan's sunset (CONGRATS on 2 x 2nd place this month, man) and Hiro's bird.

Congrats! I'd all but forgotten that butterflies have a "curly probiscus." Great detail!

Well done everyone, some very nice photo's. I'm interested on what people thought of them technically. Here's my take on the top three:
1. Franciine's butterful - Great detail and composition. Well done. :wow:
2. Tristan's landscape - I love the composition, the reflections in the water are very nice, they add to the peaceful feel of the shot. To make this a winner I would have liked to see a little more detail (i.e. light) in the foreground. Difficult to achieve without either an ND filter or by taking two exposures and combining them together in PS.
3. Hiro's bird - I think the colours are stunning. Great exposure, well done. Would have prefered a slightly closer shot. I found the branches slightly distracting, especially the one on the right.

Taken at 70mph on the freeway lol. Will do better next time, and a big GRATS! to MsChiclid. I voted 10 on that pic, because you can really SEE everything there.

Whoever did the palm tree and ferris wheel...Great job! Good detail on a night shot is hard to get. I think the one thing that would have made this a winner would have been movement on the wheel contrasted against the crispness of the tree. Of course you have no contol over the wheel.
Congrats to the winners!

The palm tree was mine. I think they were loading/unloading the ferris wheel at the time. I was holding my breath & leaning against a pole to stabilize myself, so I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out! I do have a shot of the ferris wheel in motion, but because of my lack of tripod/stability, it's not as crisp. Thanks for the comments!

Peligrin, I scored that REALLY high also. I loved the shot, it almost looks Art Deco. Was it re-done in PS or just came out like that. It almost looks like an art piece more than a photo.

Thanks, paradise! It just came out that way. I sent it in before I knew a whole lot about PS. I didn't know anything about Unsharp Masking after resizing. Here's a before and after:

IT's weird, did you use night mode or something, the tree looks completely like a negative.
I do like the sharpened version a little more. The only thing I would fix is that black spot on the tree trunk. You can fill it in w/the clone tool to make it even.

It was taken with a Canon Powershot G2, f/2.2, 1/15 sec. I probably had it on aperture priority, but I don't remember for a fact.
I may be wrong but I think the black spot is part of its power pack. How do you clone? Will it still save as a .jpg?

You clone by using Clone Stamp Tool in PhotoShop.
This is the tool
