I have been trying to get some overall tank shots using a Kodak DX6490...

I took atleast 30 shots and this is the clearest I could get

I was just using the standard photo settings in standrd mode since I know nothing about the custom settings. I am trying to get this shot using only the tank lights. Anyone offer some help?

Hi Dan,

What exactlly are you not happy with? Seem clear enough for web presentation.

Don't know exactly what your parameters were as you did not state it in the first post except the make of the camera.

Here are some questions that will help us give better suggestions..

01. What were your exact camera settings (for the above shot)?

02. Did you use a tripod?

03. Did you use a remote trigger or set the self timer to go off?

04. Did you clean both the inside and the outside of the tank glass prior to shooting?

Also, let's have a look at some of the other pictures that you were not happy with and see if there was any difference in the way you shot them.

Cheers,

I really dont know what my settings were. I left the camera in the "General Picture" taking mode and also set the night setting mode. I think my photo software tells what settings were used for each picture, I will have to look at it tonight.

I was just wondering if anyone had any tips to taking overall tank pics.

2. tripod... hmmm, I balanced the camera on a garbage can with a lid that I use for pretreating my tank water.

3. no, I just pushed the button manually, but I will have to try that.

4. no, the are clean from my water change this past weekend.

I deleted the ones that didnt turn out... I am definetly going to try for more this week end.

ok. Here's what you can do to try for a better shot.

1. Borrow a tripod to try and see for yourself if there is a difference

2. Use the self timer option if you don't have a remote control

3. Use the Aperture setting on the camera and set it to F4.5/F5.6/F6.7. Try to get pictures at all these setting and make a note of the shuter speed.

4. Read the manual of the camera and see where you can increase the sharpness on the camera. If not, do it in photoshop when you are done.

Your pictures should turn out sharper. Let's see how this goes.

Show us some pictures when you are done and maybe we can do a comparison.

Cheers,
