I am looking for a good macro lens or filter set for close ups. Any suggestions? Sorry if this has been brought up before, my search didn't bring up much.
Thanks

here's some options.
*you could get a 500d (http://www.adorama.com/CA58CU500D.html) for your 50-200
*you could get some extension tubes (http://www.adorama.com/KNAETSEOS.html?searchinfo=kenko&item_no=2) for use with your 28mm (should give you well over 1:1 - but you'll lose light.) and you'll be really close to your subject.
*of course you can always pick up a dedicated macro lens.

Great! I'd Love a Macro lens but seems to be costly right now. What would you recommend if I could swing it?

canon 100mm 2.8, or if the budget is really tight the sigma 105. do you have a speedlight?

Hiro, do you think the 500d would be a good addition to hte 100mm Macro? Or is it too much. 19" minimum focusing distance? That seems ok.

NDan, the 100mm Macro is an OUTSTANDING lens. heavy, but very very good.

Wait till you try the Canon EF 180 mm F3.5 L USM Macro.

By the way, don't add the 500D to the macro lens. It defeats the purpose. Close up filters are meant for use with non macro lenses to bring down the minimum focusing distance.

Thanks Guys... I don't have a speedlite but I have a couple of older promaster flashed I used with my Canon 630. I have an off camera bracket and a couple of small slaves. It's unfortunate, I have the money to get this stuff but am planning a move cross country to Florida and need to watch the pennies just in case. Once I get there though the gloves are off :).

I'll probably go with 500D for now and pick up the 100mm once in Florida.

Thanks again for the help!

glad to help. just remember, that closeup lenses magnify more on long lenses. that's why i recommended you use it with your long lens. the shorter focal lengths get better magnification with extension tubes. Good luck with your move, and take some pictures on the way!
