Hi All,
I,ve just purchaseda D70 and I think it's great however I've noticed on the "Auto" mode the colour is quite blue/cyan and lacking contrast. I changed the colour mode to "vibrant" which seems to have perked the colour up a bit so I was wondering what others set their cameras to and if anyone could reccomend any setups for the "custom" setting. In the meantime I've been batch processing auto levels in Photoshop which has been producing the sort of result I'm after.
Cheers, James.

Hi,
Not sure if this answers your question, but I get some strange unexpected (at least to me :-) ) results in auto mode also. the camera assumes too much i think. I get the best results in manual mode and then with adobe rgb color space selected, all adjustments off (ie 0 or normal) and set whitebalance to sunlight unless i am indoors with fluorscent bulbs around.

Most (if not all) digital still cameras still don't have a 100%-correct auto white balance/correction result, even the D70. I still do post-processing to get the colours correct, unless I'm setup for a certain lighting (e.g. taking fish photos).
I don't change the 'vibrant' thingy - saturation in outdoor photos could get a bit too high for my taste. But that's a personal preference.
Photoshop Auto-Levels work most of the time for me - some exceptions though. Probably it's because I'm using PS6 (older version). :P
Use Auto-Contrast on Photoshop - it usually corrects the lack of contrast.
Best bet? Shoot in RAW+JPEG ... but you'll have lots of post-processing work though! Happy shooting! ^_^
If you're shooting jpegs, you might want to take a look at some curves.

If you're shooting RAW, then I wouldn't worry about it since you'll be post processing them anyways.

Thanks all,
That gives me some food for thought. I'll check out those curve links too.
Many thanks, James.
