I would like some opinions if this would work for aquarium photos on top of the aquarium .

i can't speak from experience Ron, but i believe it would work fine. you would have to use your onboard flash, however - and redirect it somehow up to this flash to trigger it. Perhaps someone else who has more experience using slaves could tell you more.

If you have a wireless controller and a Canon flash, it would probably fire off that one. So you would have the STE2 Canon controller on the hot shoe, a 420/550/580 EX flash on top of the tank, and the Phoenix slave at a 45% angle to the glass as a fill in flash. That "should" work, right?

that would be ideal - so long as there are no preflashes associated with using the canon flash remotely. the preflashes would trigger the slave. but i would probably go with ed's advice and pick up a canon speedlight. they are so useful, for all types of photography. slaves are very useful as well, but you can throw ttl metering out the window.

I don't think that flash is ETTL capable but it would work - just not as well as a 420EX

I am going to get the 420 EX flash and the STE2 flash controller . For the price I thought this might be a benifit also . But I wanted to check with you guys first .
hirO ,
They say it has a switch to set for the preflashes .

I am still in awe of this camera . All the pictures of the Red Devil I have put up have been with a single 20 watt 5000K sunshine bulb in a 18 " deep tank . The Jag has 2 - 20 watt 5000K sunshine bulbs , end to end in a 24 " deep tank . I have been using ISO 800 .
