I am new to all of what most of you are doing from getting use to taking aquatic photos to improving them with software. I have the Canon EOS Digital Rebel with the kit lens. I recently bought a Canon 580EX flash and a ST-E2 wireless transmitter so I can get the flash on top of the tank. I also have Photoshop 7.0. Is there going to be any big difference for me between 7.0, CS, or CS2?

Thanks

Steve

CS and CS2 have much better RAW support. That is the main thing. Also, Shadow and Highlights tool is amazing, new to CS. Otherwise very similar. Oh and the whole 16 bit support. :)

The 16 bit support won't matter with his 300D as it is only 12bit anyway ;).

But definitely a worthwile upgrade from PS7 to CS or CS2. I currently have CS and will have CS2 next week ;).

Supposedly, much better RAW Processing unit, closer to RawEssentials or other software, batch processing, dont need to open one at a time. Some other improvements. Look at adobe's site, it's right on the front page, they are pushing it very hard. :)

That they are. There was a users' group meeting earlier in the month on the 19th at the Adobe campus (downtown San Jose).

Thanks for the replys. I think I will get 7.0 down first and then upgrade later. All of the aquatic photography and then the software is all very new to me. I will just take one step at a time.

see, at this moment i love rawshooter essentials. Much better than the adobe raw processing unit. I don't know if i'll upgrade to the CS2. Well, maybe I will, but heck, it took me a good what? 18 months since CS came out for me to buy it? I've only just got CS, and although i've been using photoshop since version 3 (yes, THREE), i'm not in any huge rush to drop $150 for an upgrade

This is a good link to see what the CS2 advantages are.

I have been using CS2 for a almost 2 weeks (*Don't ask me how I got it :) ). The Bridge function in CS2 is unbelievable. One should update just for that. File Browser in CS got nothing on The Bridge in CS2.

Check online reviews for detail information.

haven't messed with the bridge function yet. i'll have to look into it. as far as the other stuff goes, i find it pretty much the same. i did notice a "spot" healing brush. also i can't figure out how to let my mouse wheel scroll the photo size up and down. i need some more time with the program i guess. don't ask me how i got cs2 either :)

I just got CS2, Before that I was using CS, which was Awesome.
Ive been tinkering with the Noise Reduction, Since Im still using the DSC-F707.
I've been running some of my own test's to see how its going, and so far so good.
I will post an example of the Noise Reduction on here later on.
Also, if you can CS or CS 2 and are still using PS 7, My advice is to do it!

Ive had CS2 for a while now and love it. The new features are pretty sweet (vanishing point, smart sharpen, bridge). Well worth the money imo.

I agree with you tlemetry - I just got CS a few months back (upgraded from PS6), and they launched CS2 a month after I got mine!

BUT ... I'm still happy with CS for the time being (haha, self condolence). :P

CS2 is pretty ding dang dong sweet. Gotta say that I love the "intelligent" RAW workflow plug in and the healing spot brush. I tried that out in a place that I would normally use the clone tool and was like "SWIZZLE!!!!"

To me, Bridge doesn't seem all that different from the previous Browser. I dunno. There were thumbnails for RAW images in that as well.
