View Full Version : Micro photo
I studied materials science. I did a lot of microstrutural analysis by using scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope to magnify the micro stuffs up to 100K. Here's an example: (The marine micro organism)

Look like those foams that we used to wrap apples in supermarket over here
This is really something that we hardly get the chance to see.

cool!
Well these are pro-shots of scientist, but, not of pro-photographer. :D

Love the diatom pics. What are the scales from?
Those are from marine micro organism around Kenting of Southern Taiwan.

How small are the microorganisms tha the scales come from? Are the scales noncellular? If they are, are they silicon based like a forminifer?
This one with scales is more like a insect, micro oranism is not the right word. The pic (many scales) was enlarged 5000X. You sound quite familiar with the micro organisms. Honestly, I'm not a bit familiar with those stuffs, my specialty is metal and alloys!!! I used a lot on SEM or TEM during study PhD, and those photos were taken for other division of the same university.

It really does
Seriously those are very cool photos 8) Something we don't usually see.
WOW!! How can we take pictures like these with our cameras? Some special attachements?
Cheers,
Benny, that's impossible for our camera to do that. That's magnified to 10K to 100K, and use electron microscope (the light source isn't optical, instead is electron beam).
Oh well.. How about attaching the camera to microscopes? That shoud be pretty fun too? Amano seems to have some algae pictures taken that way. Any idea what's needed?
Cheers,
Those are fascinating CDM. Thanks for sharing them
