So I bought the damn thing :-D And I've tried it on board, so far I'm loving it.. Only played with it a bit inside the house on my familie. Bounced it and stuff.

Though one thing is driving me crazy. How do I use it externaly?

A couple of weeks ago I played with a uncles SB-600 over an hour, and was still clueless of how using it external. He wasn't sure to.

A quik reply would be great :) Expect some crappy over expo fish photos this evening :-D

Set it up as a remote on channel 3, group B. Jay was kind enough to elaborate on this awhile back here:

Awesome, thanks Ibn, and thanks Jay! Very well written.
I did what I was supposed to with the flash, it's the camera settings that was wrong.
I didn't know there was a detailed CSM-menu. :)

I didn't either until I had to get to the additional menus for the flash.

Thankies :) I had to try it out, shouldn't though... Lot's of homework to do..... But let's face it, somehow photographing is more interesting

But got to hit the books now...

Here's a try on the multispinosa, think it came out not halfbad for a first try. Love to push the shutter so high and the aparture so low. Not in my wildest dream I thought it would mean that much difference!

Damn, put two of the shots (before and after) next to each other. Until you do, you can't compare :) :) Welcome to serious Aquatic Photography :)

I felt the same way Alex when I got my flash . All of a sudden it seems easy to get good pictures of the fish . The difference is just unbelieveable . You will enjoy the fish photography so much more now .

Day and night difference between those two pictures. Great first picture with that flash. Definitely go with the fifth battery for quicker refresh rate.

Schnauzer: Not a doubt in my mind.

alanhill: Hehe, I kind of knew it myself. Convinced my self in so many ways, most of them ain't even realistic :)

Ibn: Thanks, now all I need is some cleaner water.. Has been a while since I cleaned the filter, I'll do that tommorow. But this evening I'll probably be awake about an hour or so longer.. Snapping photos.. Starting from about 15 minutes from now..
The 5th battery is installed :)

Welcome to the club Oblivio$!

Hehe, I did the same thing you did - I "surrendered". Looking at all those neat off-camera flash photos, and then flipping through mine ... I just couldn't resist! :D

Congratulations on your new purchase. AND yes, those photos are truly 'day & night' different! :)

I just looked up the cost for one of these SB800 beauties and was quoted about $AU 930? http://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/prod1853.htm That is half of what i paid for the D70 itself! My goodness, i will be saving for months.

Looks cool though. First a macro lense - then a speedlight

Slightly cheeper - $AU 850

wow, that's about twice as much as we pay for it after the au - us dollar conversion.

Not cheap this photography hobby in Australia! Lenses arent cheap either. Im struggling to find a decent micro lense for under $AU 1000.

I envy you people over the atlantic... Both fish and photography is a hell of a lot cheaper..

I pain 9600NOK with memory card and bag for my camera, which would cost even more..
And 3700NOK (did infact cost 4100NOK).

3700*2=7400. Not far from half of the camera price. But whatevver...it's worth it;)

FYI,

If any of you need something, let me know. I can buy it for you here and ship it. Not a problem.

Dang...talk about a big difference in prices. For $1000 AUS (equivalent to approx. $760 US), you can pick up some great macro lenses. You can pick up the Nikon 105mm macro lens for less than that.

Had I known about this earlier, I might have been able to work something out with you. My parents are actually in Australia right now on a two week vacation...

Seriously? That would be awesome m8!
What's the price on a Tamron 90mm f/2.8 in Jersey?

Many thanks,
Alex :)

Whatever you see at B&H:
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=330643&is=USA&addedTroughType=search

Toss in the price of shipping (to Jay's place and then over to you) and you're set.

Obliviou$

In US
449US$ + shipment from U.S - U.S - Norway

In Norway
603US$ + shipment from Norway - Norway

I'll dig deeper for prices w/shipment later.
If there's not that much to earn there's no need to bother Jay :)

But thanks for offering!

Ibn

Savings would really depend on how much it would take to ship from NJ to Norway, since to ship a single lens isn't that big of a cost (had two Tamron lenses shipped to California with some other stuff from B&H for $15 which isn't bad since there wasn't any sales tax).

I actually ran a quick estimate for you (really slow day here in the office...).

Shipped lens: $500.40
Global Express Mail (EMS) to Norway (3-5 days): $38.00

Not sure if Jay has to pay for taxes since NJ is so close to NY...

Thanks Ibn :) 500nok really isn't that much. So I'll let you of this one Jay ;) But you might get back to you on this later with a more expensive lense :)
