why dont you have a car?

because it's too freaking expensive to own one in Singapore.

First, the price for cars are heavily taxed.

Then, you need to bid for a certification of entitlement so that you have "permission" to buy a car. It's only good for ten years. When it expires, you get another certificate. Cost range from US$15,000 to US$30,000 per certificate.

Finally, road tax for old cars (aboe 10 years are higher) and road tax and insurance is not cheap too. Not taking into account expensive petrol

It just doesn't make sense to own one.
