I have a suggestion for the photoshop forum. We could have a really awfull pic someone could volunteer and everyone could take it and tweek it into something good? See what many people can do with the same photo. Anything from simple clean up to artsy fartsy stuff... the winner would have to post how they did it.

I like it.

I could come up with a pic bad enough :)

Well, here is the thing. I understand your concept, but APF is focused on how to help you take better photos, not fix bad ones. As you learn, you will Throw away inadequate photographs and strive for better ones. The stuff I throw away now, a year ago I would have submitted for photo contests :)

Now, that does not prevent you from casually posting a photo in Photography 101 and asking us what is wrong with it and getting help, including some Minor photoshop improvements. BUT, remember, nothing can fix a bad photo to make it good, just less bad.

Very True, maybe we could pick a certain aspect of photoshop, say cloning one week and have people work on a photo. That could help hone PS skills and teach at that the same time.

BTW Ed, I have submitted for the general POTM this month and have been voting. Thanks!

knowing the "garbage in = garbage out" principle, I would be very interested inseeing something bad turn into something good though... Some pictures can not be retaken, so if they are not that good and can be truned into something good, would be very nice. But I understand it may be out of this forums parameters.

i like the idea of weekly themes - i also agree on Ed's point. you can always just post your photo that you would like to have worked on. i'm sure you get lots of bites. and you're right peter, some photos are unretakable (err is that a word?). i'd be really interested in taking a stab at restoring some old photos. that sounds very challenging.

right, Hiro, that is the way it has been, people post images in 101 and we help them.

I think all pics could use some post work. Even in the "old days" of film there is post in the darkroom. I think alot of people get hung up on the instantcy (now I'm making up words) of digital that they forget that touching up and reworking in the darkroom is just as important than when the photo is taken. I know alot of people look down their noses at PS because it's "fake". I just look at it as my darkroom on my computer.

Maybe we should define what would be a "bad" photo. If something is OOF and just technically(sp?) bad that is one thing but taking a good or evan an average photo and making it great would be (imho) fun and a learning experience.

Could also be a what not to do or how to accomplish certain concepts in PS.

One thing that comes to mind is stitching. Take for example this picture...what not to do.
