Great news from Microsoft camp. It seems like their R&D department is really paying attention to what is HOT on the market.

Microsoft has today announced native support for various RAW file formats in its next version of Windows, known as Longhorn. In addition the 'Microsoft RAW Image Thumbnailer and Viewer' will also be available for Windows XP. "The explosion in popularity of digital photography on Windows continues to progress and evolve as consumers discover the quality benefits of digital camera RAW," said Amir Majidimehr, corporate vice president of Windows Digital Media at Microsoft. "By working with industry leaders to extend support for RAW in Windows, we are removing the obstacles for consumer use of RAW and enabling a seamless platform for the next era of digital imaging innovation.

Great stuff. BTW, for those who dont know, you already can install FREE third party RAW support for explorer, using DPMagic (http://www.dpmagic.com/). I have been using it for a while now and it works very well, you dont even notice it.

Thanks for the link Jay!! I have installed it and it works great!

Now I just need to upgrade to PS CS2 so that I can edit RAW images from my 350D in photoshop. Adobe has not issued an update/patch for CS to recognize RAW files from the new Canon 350D  They have issued this update for CS2.

Its about time Microsoft made a viewer for RAW pics. I noticed that it views jpegs kinda slow compared to the other viewer though.

have you tried this one?

It works for 20D, although not listed there. I´m not sure for 350D-files.

Yes I tried that, but it does not support the Canon 350D. However I have now updated to Photoshop CS2 and have already installed the newer update (Camera Raw 3.1) which does support the 350D. Thanks anyway.
