Took these at a LFS on monday, cool fish, EXTREMELY hard to shoot, tiny and very easily scared.

Nice Sygnathids Ed

Number 2 is a Banded pipefish (Doryrhamphus dactyliophorus). Im not sure on the origins of the first but it looks very similar to one i saw in Vanuatu last year.

Actually - now that i think about it a little bit more, the two coloured circles under the pectorial region are common on the messmate pipefish (Corythoichthys haematopterus). They are very cute, but require a bit of effort to keep alive in the aquarium.

The 2nd one is amazing. It's about 5" full size, with a gorgeous BRIGHT RED fan tail. I will make a pic later tonight, I just processed a few there are a LOT more.

yeah - pipes are hard to shoot - particularly the faster moving ones.

I'm no expert on marines of any sort, but I am interested in pipefishes. I think the first type is sometimes called a dragon pipefish (there are several similar species if my memory serves) and they are bottom dwellers. The banded pipefishes (again several species) are imported more often I think. There is an excellent web article on marine pipefishes here (http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2003-04/hcs3/)
