Topic says it all.
Its a really nice price macro lense, and i want one instead of the nikkor 50mm F1.8

Good idea?
is it sharp?

Most likely sharp, but just have a quick question for you. Have you considered a longer macro lens so that your working distance isn't right up to the tank? Just wondering since I have a 55mm f/3.5 macro and you basically have to be up to the glass to really use it (at 1:1). Due to this, I use the 90mm Tamron more often even though it isn't as sharp.

I dont mind working close to the glass. :)

How would a Extension Tube work on a macro lense?
I have access to a brand new Soligor 12mm.

it would make your working distance even shorter. and your reproduction ratio even bigger.

Hi Roy,

A macro lens will always beat a prime lens in terms of sharpness as it's meant for close up showing great details.

I would suggest using the 50 mm first and see if you really need the extension tube. It's actually not that easy to use for fish photography due to the minimum focusing distance and focal length.

Cheers,
