Congratulations to Alan for winning the General POTM July with the Smokin' photo of the angry primate.
Once again, let's make it a discussion of all Entries, but let's also congratulate the winners ( hey, I placed 2nd) :)

That was my choice. Congrats Alan. It didn't take you very long to get rewards with your new DSLR. :-)

Thank you everyone. I wondered if people would feel sorry for someone who couldn't spell 'threatening'

The shot was taken at Twycross Zoo (which is almost exactly in the middle of England). The Javan langurs are dimorphic, either all black or orange coated with pink skin, this is the dominant male who posed peacably for several shots, but then started to take exception. He pulled this face half a dozen times, but so quickly that I only caught the expression twice. This shot was the final one in a sequence of 10. I didn't want him to get too worked up, so I walked away as soon as I had taken it.
The shot was taken with my Sigma 150mm f/2.8 macro on the D70. Exposure was 1/320 at f/4 and 200 ISO on RAW. I used a rubber lens hood, which was held in contact with the glass window of the outdoor enclosure. The camera was on a monopod. The photo is cropped a little on the left hand side.
I think it is ironic that Twycross has astonishingly beautiful monkeys - red howlers, lion tamarins, crowned guenons and many more; but the most interesting photo I took was of one of the ugliest, c'est la vie.

Well, I like this photo a lot but my highest vote went to the b/w lake photo that ended up 4th. I loved the composition of that photo with the reflections on the lake. It was perfectly cropped and is breathtaking.

Thanks Alan. I have never thought about putting the lens hood directly on the glass. I'll have to try that.

Thanks for the complement paradise. I actually had the baby picture in first with the monkey guy second, both very close scores. Congradulations on the win.
