hiro, this may mean they are trademarking stuff just to be safe, not necessarily that it's Coming. :) it happens a lot, they trademark all potential versions for future use. Otherwise others do, and it costs the company more money to buy it back from them. Happens a LOT online with URLs.
that's true Ed, but they did the same for the d50, and d2x prior to their release. the trademark is on the logo, not the letters and numbers.
That's enough for me. :) Might take them awhile, but I got no money right now anyways. Time to hold on to those pennies now.

Doubt it's D2X expensive.. More in the 20D range? Maybe a tad more expensive?
Guess all we can do is wait and see.

Ooh!! Sound exciting! The wait is finally over!!! It should be better than the Canon 20D in terms of the technical specification. But what's of interest is that Canon's new camera is in the pipepline too. Will be interesting to watch.
Cheers,
That's what I heard as well, Benny. Would be interesting to see what both of their offerings are. I suspect that the new Nikon will be around the $2k mark. Well, at least that's my target. :)
just read this thread @ nikonians, dunno how good the source is tho. the rest of the thread (http://www.nikonians.org/dcforum/DCForumID84/2915.html) can be viewed <-- there.

"New DSLR in September"
Hello,
I have been in Japan again and told to my acquaintance at Nikon. So he told me, that the D-70s is the successor of the D-100 and there will be a new semi-professionell DSLR at September, between 8-10 MP , 6 fps, metal-body, extra vertical-grip. And 3 new professionell lenses, among other things a wide open DX zoom.
greetings Martin

Names & numbers can be trade marked too - not just logo's.
Case in point...intel processors.......286, 386, 486...pentium! Some smart arse saw the pattern emerge and registered 586 as a trade mark before Intel did - and then tried to sell them the rights - hence Pentium!

Jay,
Aren't you glad you didn't hold your breath waiting for the D200 and got the D2X instead? Wonder if the new Nikon offering will be in time for Christmas?
Cheers,
it's been some time already hasn't it. not sure if i should wait on the body or go ahead and invest into some more glass first. ah well, i can hold off another month or so... but that 17-55 has been calling my name.

Cheers,
Benny,
I'm very glad. My initial plan was to purchase D2X, play with Pro Body, sell it, buy D200 and more glass. Now, I would NEVER sell D2X for a non-Pro body. Maybe at some point in the future I will be looking for 2nd body and then i will consider D200. For now, I'm in LOVE all over again :)
