Hi,

In trying to improve my general photography skills I got a picture I actuelly liked... Holliday pictures tend to be boring over all. Same old beach, same old campside, same old... you get the picture. This one came out the way I wanted.

But, I am sure it can be improved even more. So please give your comments.

Oh, and don't let the fact that I very happy with the picture keep you from bashing it :-|

great shot. i think i would remove the object in the top right corner though. also, there's a lot of artifacts in this image. probably from your host degrading the image quality - no biggie if it's nice and clean on the full size file.

After google-ing on "artifacts" I can say they are the result of me downsizing, copyright stamping and jalbuming the picture. I took it from my website. The original is sharp as a razor!

I am going to try to remove the object like you mentioned.

Thanks.

My personal preference of the composition would like this one (please excuse if you feel I modified it too much):

My personal preference of the composition would like this oneI see what you mean, but I have plenty of shots like that. I tried to create a more "enclosed" picture (sorry english is not my native language)

(please excuse if you feel I modified it too much):As long as you leave my son relatively unmodified, I have no problems with anyone modifying the picture to make a point :-D

But technically the picture looks ok? Lighting/DOF?

Composition is another thing. Personal prefferences kick in there...

DOF of it is good enough, and a little more fill lighting to brightn up your son a bit would be great. (it's just very minor though)

I think its a great shot. Good lightingand top subject! Dear to your heart. Shame about the artefacts, but im sure the full sized image looks wonderful.

Good shot.

Lighting looks ok, though I agree with CDM on getting a bit more lighting. Focus and DOF looks ok too, but the pic you posted sucked (it looks horribly compressed!).

My only grouse would be composition, but you already had a 'disclaimer' on that. Horizon level is also slighly off. I would have prefered more space in the photo overall.
