I think this one turned out a lot better than the other, but I like the other shot of the fish better. i wish I had not overexposed it.

Yes, I have been working on getting the basics of the overlight/dark background and energing-from-darkness fish pics as of late.

Also taken with the Canon 300d 70-200 f/4L 122mm 100ISO. I think I'll start working with a higher ISO and see what that does for me.

i actually like these types of shots. this is a good moody shot.

I think you have been unlucky in the way the soft part of the dorsal obscures the tail and rather dominates the photo. I think it might look better if it was cropped into a portrait format shot, losing everything past the ends of the pectorals on both sides.
