just something that I was playing around with taking pics of...

I tried a dark background but it didnt look good at all, I am not to sure if I am happy with the lighting in this shot. I had a small light above and behind the subject and anoth small light above and in front of the object...

Since the main subject itself is a bit of dark, I'm wondering if there's one more light on the subect, could it be able to emphasize the subject a bit?

you need more light directly at it. what is that light from in the top area? window? it sticks out too much. the base as well, the reflection is no good.

Its a good shot though, if you put more light at it, and got rid of the window light it would be even better.

Hi Dan,

I think the white background threw your exposure off a little bit. Same type of problem with shooting a snow scene. Facial features seem a bit soft.

As for lighting, if you want to get the nice rim lighting around the edge of the figurine (especially the wings), try lighting the subject from behind and at the base of the figurine. Using a dark background will enhance the effect. For the front, I would suggest a slight lighting and at a slightly higher angle.

Actually, what I've just described is a fairly standard portrait technique. Go check the photography books.

Cheers,
