I'm upgrading my 2 megapixel camera and have a $500 budget. I've been very happy with my SONY DSC P51 and am thinking of upgrading to the SONY DSC V1 (Dell has it for ~$480). I also already have several SONY memory sticks.

Is there a better choice out there with a sub~$500 price tag?

hey Bob

From the review it seems the camera has all the manual features you will need, and the review is quite favorable. The only thing I dont like in Sonys (I have a 717 as you prob. know) is pretty high noise at higher ISOs, and very noticable shutter lag. The ISO problems are easily solved by using great lighting and lower ISO (also only 100, not lower as in some other brands), but the shutter lag is very frustrating at times when you think you got a perfect shot and it takes it a full sec. or two later. If you have already invested in mem. sticks, go for it. Look around online, you may find a better price than dell.

Thanks Edward! I ordered the V1 from Dell tonight ($422). I post some shots as soon as I get it.
