Another try at minimalizm.
The idea here is to make something simple, a tad interesting, and old!
Grain added on purpose (grain is a much nicer word than noise!)

Absolutly agree with you: simple but excellent, Ħbravo!
This kind of grain is very, very, very nice. B&W is another think without doubt. Thanks for share it!
Perhaps, and only to say something constructive, whites are a little too much sobreexposives in my opinion, nothing serius. Congratulations.

Thanks for the feedback Pablo!
Appreciate it :)
And yeah, B&W + grain actually works most times.
Agreed. The BG is a bit distracting (especially that white circular object). Also, would prefer a tighter crop or even a portrait crop.

Maybe it's my monitor, or maybe it's because I've spent hours and hours in a darkroom doing black and white printing the old-fashioned way - but I think that many of the b&w shots that get posted here are far too black and white. A good b&w photo usually has very little black or white in it - it's all about shades of grey.
Alex could you try to reduce the contrast of this shot a little to bring more shades of grey into the links of the chain? I think it would reveal more of the texture of its surface and emphasise its difference from the grain of the background. I think a small change here could make a big difference to the quality of the result (particularly if you try to make a large print of the shot).

Wow! I really liked the first one with the exception of the white dot just to the left of the links. but when I got to the last one... I was amazed at how it blended out the background and the links have such depth to them. The white dot is no longer an issue. There is a fantastic amount of space to the left to find a quote or a piece of poetry that relates to the theme. I really like the results of this and I think I may have learned a little something about the shades of grey! Thanks!

I like both for different reasons. 2nd version is more detailed and soothing, the first one is more Urban looking, a high contrast version. There is definitely a place for both, depending on the mood and the taste of individuals.

Very nice photo Alex! I would have to say I prefer the second, the detail that can now be seen on the chain looks very nice. I also like the high contrast of the first shot, but find the bright white in the background distracting.

Well done Alex. Can you guess which one I prefer? ;)
Ed has a point of course. The high contrast version does have more immediate impact - but the second is an image that encourages you to look closer and to think about the subject: it has a dynamic composition, but the extra subtlety brings rewards.
