No offense to Alexander's great staged capture, but I think this shot was waaay above the rest. I particularly liked the contrast of color on Rick's photo.
There were many good shots in this month's GP PON contest. Congrats to all.

I gave my top marks to Alex' and Jay's photographs. Jay will fill you guys in for the reasoning of that photo (Anyone here seen Harry Potter movies?...) I thought it was a great art piece, easily framable. I liked the concept of Alex's shot also.
The flower photo was a great shot, and it was the obvious one to win, the easiest one on the eye. A few months ago, I did the same thing winning w/the Rose shot.

Well done Rick - you got my vote (and it wasn't just because of the dragonfly I really liked the composition and the colour).

I really liked Jay's 39 1/2 shot. The angle, contrast and unique detail was tops in my book.
The color on Ricks photo put it in a close second. The focus is on the flower and I thought the focus should be on the dragonfly imo. I thought it was hard to see the dragonfly with it being just out of focus. (could be my bad eyes too) With a long DOF and focused on the dragonfly you could have had both in focus.
Congrats!
Im very surprised I made 3rd. I thought most of these were better than mine! Thanks for the votes!

Yepp, thanks for the votes guys. 0.01p from a draw
Deserved winning photo. But not my favourite because of the OOF dragonfly. I'm kind of a perfectionist sometimes
I really like the simplicity of the bench photo. And the strong reds vs everything else.
And Jay, your shot just got a bunch better after I understood the concept!

Well .....
I guess not many people liked what I was trying to present :(
It is amazing and interesting how we find our favorite images. Some people look at X object and go WOW while others scroll down and don't even look twice. This is what drives this hobby .... Uniqueness and Personal Opinion.
I knew Teresa aka Tlemetry would like that submission because I noticed she enjoys that type of photography. Thanks ! At the same time I was a bit disappointed seeing scores from people who I thought would enjoy it more but clearly didn't.
I find the composition interesting but I guess the main focal point here is the actual number. How many apartments do you see with the #39 1/2. I saw only 1st part of Harry Potter and thought only in the movies we would see Train Track called 1 1/2.
There is always another month so enjoy the hobby, keep snapping and participate in this excellent contest.
* Going back to drawing board

Thanks to all those who voted for my photo. Wow... I never thought that entering a photo contest would be the cause of so much controversy. I guess we all have our own views on what makes a photo stand out.
Here's some info on the photo,
Camera: Nikon D100
Lens: Sigma 70-200 2.8
ISO 200, f11
The photo was taken in my backyard, during my morning feeding of my tropical fishes when I noticed that the dragonfly had started to emerge on the lily (Lindsey Woods). I immediately went to get my camera and tripod and started to take a few pictures of the dragonfly and lily. The photo that I submitted was the best of the five that I shot.

Congratulations Rick / Flowerhorns4me!
What a close contest this was - I was torn between some of the entries. Jay's definitely had my eye (love the 39 1/2, and the angle of the shot) ... and I always have a soft spot for animals (ie the parrot).
On the winning entry ... well, I didn't like the OOF dragonfly. Great photo IMO, just the OOF dragonfly didn't do it for me.
