Just picked up my new sony f717 i love it but its furstrating getting use to it.So many dam options and stuff annoys the shit outta my.Ne help would be greatly appreciated?
hey man
Good camera, for fish pics it's good enough. I have learned to have a love and hate relationship with mine, and have tried repetedly to get rid of it and upgrade but to no avail.
The key to this camera is this: MANUAL MODE!!! You have to have great lighting, then go into manual and play with the two adjustments: Shutter Speed (the bottom one on the right) and aperature (right above it). If you use flash, set shutter lower (1000 is the lowest, it's actually a fraction, so it's 1/1000) to 2 secs or so highest (you never use it). With flash, for me the best settings seem to be 1/500 and 3.5 aperature (on your camera it goes from 2.0 to 8.0, 2.0 being the HIGH number, more light going through). If you get great lighting, you can skip the flash, and use about 1/100 shutter, and 2.0 aperature.
Play with it and learn tricks. go ahead and ask more in this thread I will watch it.

The lighting seems adequate based on your sample fish pic. The greenish tint may be the result of a wrong white balance, try using flourescent wb. If you do use it, then I would suggest trying non-flash pics, but that would require much more lighting.
lmk how it works
