Should I be looking for any special lens for tank shots or close ups?

I currently have the Rebel XT with 75-300mm and a 18-55mm lens....I often find it easier to get closer with the 75-300mm and use it more then the 18-55mm lens.

Just wondering if I need to look at other lenses for the type of photis I wish to take?

Thank you

Olive, there are a lot of discussions on Aquatic lenses, you should search through APF for any mention of 100mm macro, 60mm macro, or 50mm 1.8 lenses. that is the short version.

Long version. One of the best aquatic lenses that I know of (the one I use also) is the 100mm 2.8 Macro from Canon. Tamron and Sigma make their own versions (90mm and 105mm macros) but I love the build and the amazing sharpness of the Canon version. it's pricey (about $450-500) but well worth the money spent. For bigger subjects, there is the 60mm version that is comparable in quantity (almost).

If you are on a budget, a $70-80 50mm 1.8 lens is a good starter lens. It's 1.8 aperature is great for those shots where the subject is in focus, while everything else is blurred out to make it stand out. It's also a decent all around lens, very good for soft background portraits.

One of our members, Hiro, recently showed how a very non-traditional lens, the 70-200 (he used Nikon version, VR, but there is a Canon version, IS, also available) to take excellent photos, proving that you dont need a macro lens if you have another quality lens, like that one.

Hope that helps, but you should really search around here for more info.
