Close Up Lens-100mm f/2.8 Macro... how can I use it and how could i use it with my camera and a
18-55mm lens? Would it be a good purchase, or a waste of money?

Olive, It's not close up, it's a Macro lens, and YEAH, it's the most amazing lens you can get for aquatic photography. :) I have one and so do MANY here. It's not something that works with 18-55, it's something that you replace 18-55 with :) ANd you will never put it back on again :) j/k (though it's partly true) It's worth every penny you will spend on it, one of the best lenses Canon makes.

It didn't seem like a replacement, but more of an addition? Hummm...maybe we are speaking of something different...have a look, found it on ebay...on there all the time....

I looked at what you were talking about Olive . These screw into the front of your lense . They mean it will fit a 100mm f/2.8 Macro or any lense that is 58mm . AS to how they work I personally can not comment .
If you ever find any 100mm f/2.8 Macro for that price grab them all :-)

Oh those, you mean? They are just + rings. You need a 58mm lens, like the 100mm, and then they screw on on top. I have tried them, the effects are not worth it. If you need magnification from 100mm macro, get the 180 macro instead :)
The actual 100mm macro is AMAZING though. Try to rent it and try out.

Well, I have used the Nikon closeups (much better glass than the generic cheap ones) attached to my 50mm lens and I can say this. It will add magnification qualities to your lens, but at a sacrifice to exposure. Extra light is required, particularly if you are shooting aquarium fish shots. Also, you will need to execute a more steadier hand or use a tripod to eliminate camera shake. This is a cheap alternative to increase the magnification of your current lens. It is not the alternative for macro photography though.

I agree with Ed the 100mm macro F2.8 is a stunning lens, I would be lost without mine.
