I dont think that I could ever consider a rat a pet, but thats just me...

Funny how it works, I think they are pretty cool. But my wife would run me out of the house with the rats (well, she would not touch the rats, she'd call the exterminator on them).

Dan L> that's exactly what i was thinking, untill my gf demanded rats in exchange for another tank :) When she finally got the two rats, i started to like them pretty quick.
They are cool! thats for sure....
they are like puppies! always running around fighting. They lick your fingers, and respond to their names! If i have some food in my hand, and place on of them on the floor in front of me, she'll crawl all the way up to my shoulder, and lick and bite my ear till they get their share LOL whats not to love about them [smilie=biggrin.gif]
Anyways, each to their own [smilie=punk.gif]

omg... to bad... but u do know that it's a normal age for a rat to die right? They're supposed to get app. 2 - 2½ years, but in rare cases they are seen as old as 5 years!!!
Your rat was beautiful though... and looks like he had a cool hobby [smilie=drunks.gif] LOL

My rats are only 2 month old... so it will a be a few years till they die....

Yeah, I know Rats only live about 2.5 years, but it really sucks because he was hurting in the end. Sapporo was such a good boy. He NEVER bit anyone. I gave him baths on a regular basis, and as you can see, was quite docile when put into rather odd positions. I raised him from a little jelly bean with all his brothers and sisters when I worked at Pet-hole.

I have always wanted a rat but here in alberta we aren't allowed to keep them as pets. We are a rat free province

CUTIES! [smilie=mf_laughbounce.gif]
Rats are extreemly intelligent creatures.
It is too bad about their life span. Sorry for your loss.
Rat free Province...I doubt it! I mean I know you can't buy one, but there are rats in Antartica! They are like the cockroach, Everywhere!

The province is rat free. I'm sure the ocaisional rat probably gets into the province, but any infestations are reported and stopped. We have a "rat-control" team. Here is an article from the National Geographic:

I have never seen a rat, plenty of mice but no rats. Here is another article about it http://www1.agric.gov.ab.ca/$department/deptdocs.nsf/all/agdex3441
