Wow.

Once again, look at those specs ..... AMAZING !!!

At this point in the hobby, there is NO need to buy Pro Body unless you really need it. This Nikon model provides plenty of pixels, huge LCD and soooo many settings (*like Pro Body) that will keep you occupied for a long time.

As for as I'm concerned, there is NO other camera on the market that has both: great specs and price tag !

You are getting all this for $1.699

There will be a lot of brand changing for sure this time :)

Look out for used Pro Bodies: D2x / D1x / Marks .... If you don't need one, D200 will cover those just fine.

So here is my questions.

Since there will be a flood of D70 bodies on the "used for sale" market, and I decide to keep mine after buying the D200, where and when do I use the D70 when I'm not using the D200?

Will the D70 out qualify the D200 for any particular situation?

Also, now is the time for all the point and shooters to make the next step into DSLR world by investing in used D70 cams. In a couple months they will probably be in the $400 to $500 range.

Remove the IR cut filter and use it for cool IR shots, clean B&W and stuff..

it's always a good idea to have a spare if you are doing a gig. would suck to have a camera konk out on you during a wedding etc... also, the d70 is lighter. sometimes i like to travel light - i think the d70 would be perfect for this. the d70 flash sync (1/500s vs 1/250s) is probably the only significant improvement over d200. the d200 is jam packed with features. the viewfinder is supposed to be very nice and bright as well :). i hear the af is pretty responsive and accurate - can't wait to see for myself just how well the cam1000 functions.

This looks like the ultimate prosumer camera . I wonder what canon has on the drawing boards as an answer to this .

actually, this seems more aimed at the semi-pro / pro market. magnesium alloy body, weather sealing etc... MLU! i dun really care about what canon does, their ergonomics just doesn't work well for me. of course, this is just a personal thing. and that su800!!! exciting time for nikonians. i suspect i will be speding a lot of time in the doghouse soon.

D70 vs. D200 hmmmm ....

The only time you would use D70 would be be when your D200 is broken. That is it. Hir0 mentioned weight.... Trust me, there is no difference between two. I don't have a problem with D2X and D200 should feel like a feather unless combined with vertical grip. But if you going hiking, who is taking vertical grip :)

Nikon basically set another standard like they did with D70. You could not compare D70 with Rebel and now you simply can not compare 20D with D200. Two different leagues. Funny to see that a lot of online reviews are done between D200 vs. 5D. Just like D70 vs. 10D.

d70 flash sync (1/500s vs 1/250s) is probably the only significant improvement over d200
This is not an issue at all. You can set your flash sync at 1/8000 just like a Pro Body. Although it is not "true" flash sync but it works like one. Worked on D2X that same way :)

This is one amazing toy !

Agreed. That would be the primary reason why I would still lug the D70 around in addition to a D200. When you're out and shooting a paid job, it's always nice to have a backup just in case your primary camera fails. I've been considering a backup body for awhile now due to this (it's never good when you're unsure about your gear).

Also, there are so many times when I am shooting, I wish to have a second body w/a different lens. I was at the Aquarium of the Pacific recently, and while most fish pics were with 100mm, a few times I wanted to shoot aquariums, and it was such a pain to switch to the 12-24. I kept saying I wished I had another cam to put the 10-24 on.

Yep, andreas :) If I would switch it would be to this D200, sounds like an amazing camera. I have actually thought of it :) Not going to happen though :)
