I have a kodak dc280 zoom. I don't think it has an option of manual focus. Unless someone knows otherwise? I have figured out a way that i like to take pics without the flash bouncing back at me finally. And the fish don't mind staying still for long enough for me to take a pic. but i like to get the camera right up against the glass and in order for the picture to be in focus i need to be 8 inches away from the subject. if i could only get into a manual focus mode i think i could get some decent pics. any suggestions?

If a cam doesn't have manual focus, you can simulate it by half-pressing the shutter release to focus lock on a certain depth in the tank, then moving forward and backward to move yourself into focus of a fish in the tank. This is essentially all I do with my manual focus on the G3.

That's what I do with my old Kodak DC260. You have to go into settings and change the focus to manual and the distance to infinity.

Infinity? That doesn't sound right if you are wanting to be as close as possible.

Infinity means that 'everything' is in focus. That is the setting they recommend for using the accessory macro lens. The sold a lens kit for the DC260 camera before it became obsolete. It has a 7x and a 10x that you can use individually or together.

You can see this camera in the movie Mission Impossible 2, it was already obsolete when the movie came out. [smilie=lol.gif]

Sorry, infinity does not mean everything is in focus on any macro lens telephoto lens or digital camera that I know of. Depth of field is dependent on focal length and aperture. No lens can have "everything" in focus at one setting. I'm afraid you have been mis-informed.

there is something called hyperfocus, search for it, but its not infinity focus., infinity focus is where far away objects appear in focus. eg: the moon is almost always in focus at infinity for any lens.

I didn't say that everything was in focus when using the macro lens, just that when using the macro lens you are supposed to set the camera to infinity in the manual focus choices. [smilie=biggrin.gif]

Of course I was misinformed, why do you think the camera is obsolete now? [smilie=mf_laughbounce.gif]

No hyperfocus on this camera, honest, it's older than you think. [smilie=rotf.gif]
