Optical Performance
Razor sharp from edge to edge. Out of focus rendering is very creamy and smooth. Capable of 1:1 reproduction without any adapters. This lens also doubles as a great headshot lens, however it may reveal more detail than you want to see. I haven't had any problems with Chromatic Abberations at all.
Working distance at 1:1 reproduction is 11.4in. (0.29m) from the focal plane NOT the end of the lens.

Build Quality
The lens is also made out of polycarbonate instead of metal, so this translates into a very lightweight
lens. Construction is very solid, no rattling. There is a very useful focus limit switch which limits to lenses
ability to focus to full range, close up focusing, or telephoto. This helps as this lens isn't very fast focussing using autofocus. The focus ring can easily change from manual to autofocus by sliding it back and forth. Manual focus is very smooth. The focusing ring is rubberized for a nice grip. There is an adjustable aperture ring.

Bottom Line
This is an outstanding lens. Optics are superb, and despite being plastic - this lens really feels solid. One
thing to keep in mind is this - The lens is f/2.8 when used at the telephoto end. It grows as it extends
out to focus in close, which results in light loss. @ 1:1 max aperture is f/5.6. This really isn't a problem to
me since I always stop down for macro shots due to shallow DOF. I would recommend this lens to anyone
who wants a tack sharp macro lens with very nice bokeh.

I recommend this lens to anyone out there looking for a cheaper macro lens. Of course it still costs a pretty penny but its cheaper than the other ones. At least I think its cheaper than the other ones. My dad dropped it once and I had to have it repaired because the infinity focus range was blurred (is that the right term?) and sometimes the autofocus would refuse to work, and it still does... Stupid dad. He drops the lens and then later accidentally hits it on the roof of his car and checks for dents on HIS CAR not my lens. Evil.... lol.

It's just a great lens.
