Is it just focus that isnt quite spot on here? Fill flash may have helped witht he dark bee?

It's not a bad photo, but the bee is so dark that it loses detail, fill flash could have helped, but it can give very artificial results if it's done crudely. In such bright sunlight, a reflector like a white card held just to the left of the camera would have reflected some light back on to the subject. Alternatively you could have found a white flower for the bee :-D
I think you were a little too conservative in your choice of aperture and shutter speed: you might have done better at 1/125s at f/18 - the extra d.o.f. always helps and you ought to have been able to hand hold the camera & 105mm lens at this shutter speed.

Thanks Alan for taking the time to provide me with this good advice. You are a champion. The reflector card is an idea i might give a go.
