Just came across this new software and have been doing some testing. The results seems much better then neat image.
Original image taken at ISO1600 on a cloudy afternoon (no editing, just cropping).

Using neat image and selection at lower right corner.

Using noise filter and noise level set at 100 (default = 20).

How do you guys feel?

All 3 look the same!
Both have reduced sharpness compared to original. But the last one seems pixelated in areas with continous color tones.

I do agreed with you. As for the pixelated issue, I am not sure is it because of the noise level setting. I didn't really go through every settings but just did a quick testing.

Testing Helicon? [smilie=biggrin.gif]
I agree, the last image does have a tonal staining/bleeding look to it, which is what I experienced when I was playing with Helicon in some situations. Others, it was far easier to use in the one-click sense. Granted, it's free... and brand new...so you can't complain too much. Plus the 'Pro' version may have NI and NN beat hands down.
Any of you guys try NoiseNinja yet? I've had better overall luck with that than even NeatImage (but I do love the PS plugin).

Yeah man! That's the one [smilie=laugh.gif] I am not really sure about the 'pro' version as I have yet to test on it yet.
NoiseNinja is new to me. Maybe I will try to get a copy and put all the results side by side.

I'd bet that'd make a killer article...
Noise Reduction - The good, the bad, and the ugly
*LOL*
I play with them all, they all have their goods and bads, and some seem to work better on some images better than others. Each has their contrast sweet spots, depending on tonal differences in the image.
That's be cool to gather some high ISO images with varying contrast and put em all to the test, like a shootout article!

I agreed. I tried NoiseFilter on one of the pic and the background color actually came out different.
